I knew it was getting close.
On Thursday mornings, during one of my weekly meetings, is when I fill up my daily pill containers. There’s the morning meds and evening meds. There are a lot between the prescriptions and the supplements. My DMT bottle had just enough for four days. The manufacturer had already sent the refill and was bugging me in text messages to refill for next month already too.
“Hmm… I better figure out when I need to stop these.”
Yep. The Go/No-Go point is here. Ninety days before I land in Mexico is when I need to stop taking my DMT, or Disease Modifying Therapy. For me, they are expensive capsules that I take four of per day. Somehow, even with our income, the manufacturer approved the discount program for us so they are free to me. (Someone needs to explain to me where the money comes from.) I’m entering the “wash-out” period where these get drugs get out of my system.
Yep, 95 days out.
I have an appointment for new MRIs this coming week. Unfortunately, it’s after I have to stop my DMT. I was hoping to get them done before but staffing issues and insurance issues delayed me getting an appointment. It’s only a couple days though. Surely the three days that I’ll be off my DMT won’t affect my MRI differently than if I had been taking their “effective” treatment. (If you don’t want to click the link, the drug allows you to have only 1.5 lesions instead of the placebos 5.6. <sarcasm> That’s a 72% reduction! Amazing right? </sarcasm>)
Any lesion means dead brain cells. And any active MS disease, even if it’s not leaving lesions, means brain fog and fatigue. You know what’s better than that? No progression!
That’s what I’m going for. By visiting Mexico, I’m hoping to reboot my immune system. Hopefully, my body will stop attacking itself.
I initially didn’t think that I would blog about this journey, but now I think I’m going to do it for me. More of a diary. And if anyone else wants to read it, that’s fine. But, I don’t anticipate providing a lot of background information. Someone who’s also going through this also has written a great blog post here. And the clinic’s website is https://www.hsctmexico.com/.
So, I filled my pill containers for the week, and only have my DMT in them for four more days. The extra bottle I have on the shelf is unopened. I wrote on the side of it, “Last day was 2/27/22.” I hope that I never have to take a DMT again.
